A Night in June

First one drop and then another
Rain sprinkles across my skin.
The sky before me darkens.
It is time for me to go in.

The wind picks up
no more a light breeze.
Now it has strengthened
it’s lashing the trees.

With ominous intent
the black sky rumbles.
Thunder crashing
fat raindrops splashing.

A heavy curtain
falls over the land.
The rain cleansing
everything at hand.

The sound of the rain
plays a sweet little tune.
It lulls me to sleep
this quiet evening in June.
